Description

Dębica, the tyre company situated in Dębica near Tarnów, will be shutting down production of inner tubes and tyres for bicycles, shedding 360 jobs (out of a total workforce of 3076). This decision was reached by Goodyear, the principal shareholder of the Polish company. In 2005, the bicycle tyre and inner tube department suffered an operating loss of PLN 3 million, despite restructuring and an effort to lower costs. The bicycle components made at Dębica could not withstand the competition of less expensive products imported in bulk from Asia.
