Description

Eurosport DHS, owned by Chinese investors, have opened a bicycle factory in Deva, Hunedoara county. The investment totalled USD 5 million and the factory is set to manufacture 1 million bicycles per year, creating 400 new jobs in the process. Initially the investment was made in Valea Jiului, PetroÅŸani, but this year most of the production was relocated. In Valea Jiuliu, only a small branch manufacturing outer covers for bicycles remains. Employment effects for Valea Jiuliu have not been reported.

In the new location, the Deva – Hunedoara – Călan area, the company can draw on workers who have lost their jobs due to the restructuring of the mining and metallurgy sectors. The bicycles will be sold locally through hypermarkets chains like Metro, Billa, Carrefour and will be exported to Germany, Italy, Moldova and Albania.
