Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
As a result of personnel negotiations, Spar Finland will give notice to 217 employees and close down 29 food retail shops. The personnel negotiations concerned all 1,020 employees of the group.
Of those dismissed the majority are store employees, only seven work in the corporate headquarters. Most of the older employees will start the so-called unemployment pension tube.
During the six weeks of negotiations, the number of dismissals diminished. Most of the Spar personnel were re-employed at regional retail co-operatives, especially in the HOK-Elanto, which is growing its network in the Helsinki region, and in the retail co-operative Hämeenmaa. The employees of bigger Eurospar shops in these areas were taken on as old employees.
Spar Finland is going to close down 29 Spar shops, of which four are Eurospars. The Eurospar shops to be closed are in Kemi, Kempele, Rovaniemi and Lahti.
