Description

Union officials are meeting Tesco management following a decision by the supermarket giant to cut more than 400 jobs at its Dundee distribution depot. Shop workers union Usdaw said it understood the retailer's decision to open a new facility in West Lothian. But it said closure of the Dundee site would have 'serious implications' for the workers.

Tesco said the move was needed as existing Scottish depots were not large enough to meet customer demand. The depot will be closed along with another in Livingston before the new £75m facility opens in Livingston in the summer of 2007, employing about 1,400 workers.
