Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
At the end of November 2005, Beiersdorf Group (manufacturer of the Nivea and Hansaplats brands) announced further restructuring of its production. Other relocations are being considered at the group's European units. The production of the German unit based in Hamburg (85 salaried workers) will be moved to Spain while the sites located in Almere (Netherlands, 130 salaried workers) and Kungsbacka (Sweden, 200 salaried workers) are threatened with closure. Management is preparing to negotiate the reclassification of employees with the trade unions.
