Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The textile company Ecco'Let, producing footwear, announced its relocation. The measure will affect 109 workers, whose contracts will be terminated by mutual agreement. The company justified the measure by severe economic difficulties and a lack of work related to the strong competition in the market. Ecco'Let management offers 1.25 month wages per year of service. The company decided the delocalisation of part of the production to Slovakia, Indonesia and Thailand to meet cheaper labour force. EccoLet currently employs 369 people.
