Description

Hundreds of job losses due to budget cuts are threatened at Scotland's largest local authority. Glasgow City Council predicts a cut of 294 jobs excluding teachers but said there would be no redundancies or effect on frontline services. The public service union said proposed cuts to meet equal pay claims will cost an estimated 350 jobs and hit services. Planned cuts already announced include a 15% reduction in residential care places for children. Elsewhere, six out-of-school care services could be transferred to the voluntary sector. The budget proposals come as Glasgow City Council tries to meet an equal pay claim for 10,300 employees. The local authority said there would be no redundancies and reductions would come from vacancies, turnover and alternative employments.
