Hightex, a German manufacturer of car upholstery, plans to build a Ft 1 billion plant and logistics centre at a greenfield site near Bonyhád, southwest Hungary. Work on the plant will start in february 2006 with 50 employees. Hightex will hire 100 to 120 people until 2007, but the 1,500 square metre plant could be expanded to employ 200-250 people later on. The company is negotiating with several local leather companies for future supplies and plans to start production as early as February 2006 in a plant that once belonged to the shoemaker Salamander. Hightex makes upholstery and accessories for car interiors of textile, wood, metal and leather. Bonyhád and its area is well-known for its leather and shoe industries, but many companies have left, leaving hundreds of skilled workers jobless.
