Description

Superdrug the health and beauty chain plans to open at least 35 new stores in the UK in 2006 as part of a major investment programme. It says the £14.6 million scheme will create 350 jobs, double the number of stores in central London and see an expansion into the Irish Republic. Locations for new stores include Alloa, Ayr and Wick in Scotland and Enfield and Harlesden in London. Superdrug is the UK's second largest health and beauty chain with 700 shops.

The expansion comes two months after rivals Boots and Alliance UniChem revealed they would merge in a £7 billion deal in an effort to thwart competition from supermarkets.
