Description
A decision by supermarket group Somerfield means the closure of two distribution depots in Rainham, Essex, and Welwyn Garden City, Hertfordshire with the loss of 440 jobs. Both of the depots are managed by the logistics group Exel and will close in April 2006. Talks with staff and unions are under way and Exel said that 'every effort' was being made to find alternative jobs for those affected. The Welwyn Garden City site employs 280 people and the Rainham depot has 160 staff.
