Description

Dutch methanol producer Methanor will cease production in Delfzijl, northern Netherlands. Methanor announced in late September 2005 that it would close one of its two plants in Delfzijl in 2005 due to high gas price. The second plant will be closed in the course of 2006, the spokesperson said. Natural gas accounts for 80% of Methanor costs and the company is not able to compete with its rivals. According to Methanor, all 91 jobs in Delfzijl will eventually be cut. The company will further cut seven jobs at its head office in Amersfoort, eastern Netherlands. Methanor will shortly start consultation with the trade unions about a social plan for the redundant employees.
