Description

In November 2005, Uzina Mecanică de Armament Mija (Dâmboviţa county, Sud region) announced that it would cut 155 jobs by 15 December 2005. The trade union leader, Giovanni Locatelli, declared that redundant employees would be receiving redundancy pay for a three-year period. At the same time he accused the current management of Uzina Mecanică de Armament Mija of not doing their utmost to obtain sufficient orders so as not to have to let the employees go.

The trade union said that initially the company had decided to cut 230 jobs but that following discussions with the Ministry of Economy and Commerce (Ministerul Economiei şi Comerţului, MEC), it had agreed to reduce the number of redundancies.

The current manager of the plant refuted the accusations made by the trade union leader and said that he hoped the central administration would find solutions for the company to continue its activity.
