Description
An attempt to secure a contract to produce jeans for Levi's failed. The textile company Denims Service had first considered retaining 150 workers rather than close down its operations. However the last option was finally chosen. Spokesperson for the compayy said that the closure was due to a loss of market share and high labour cost. The manufacturing sector has been shrinking. The dismissal of these 850 workers (0.6% of the labour force in Malta) will make the manufacturing sector leaner.
