Description
Kaufland, a member of the Lidl & Schwarz group, opened its first store in Romania on 13 October 2005. The investment totalled €11 million and created 700 jobs.
The store space covers 6,400 square metres, with a free-of-charge car park allowing for 330 parking spaces.
The company has a warehouse in Ploieşti and is set to open another five or six stores across the country, with the building sites already partially acquired. According to the country manager, close to 40 Kaufland stores are shortly to be opened in Romania. ‘We want to become the major player on the local market' declared the Kaufland official, the intended expansion targeting not only the large cities in the country but all towns with over 100,000 inhabitants.
The Lidl & Schwarz group has been in operation for the past 75 years and currently owns 650 stores in various countries.
