Description
A dairy near Colwyn Bay is to close with the loss of more than 100 jobs. The Longslow Food Group is shutting its dairy at Mochdre, which has been losing money for two years. Unless a buyer can be found for the firm's Manchester depot, that will also close with the loss of a further 47 jobs, the company said.
Longslow's chairman and managing director, Philip Crewe, said there had been a general move by the large milk buyers to reduce their supplier base. They had recently been instructed by one of their customers, the Spar group, that they had arranged a sole supply deal with the Dairy Farmers of Britain co-operative. Mr Crewe said more than 100 workers had already been issued with redundancy notices. Around 15 jobs will be transferred to a local depot.
