Description

Imperial Tobacco has said it is closing its Rizla rolling paper factory in Treforest, south Wales, with the loss of 134 jobs. Rizla and other Imperial brands make up about 75% of the British rolling-paper market. The Treforest plant, opened in 1940, ran at close to its 25 billion leaf capacity in 2005. But Imperial believes it can save £3 million a year by shifting production to a larger, under-used factory in Wilrijk, Belgium, which can produce 66 billion leaves. The Belgian site will be the world's sole Rizla plant.
