Description
Arjo Wiggins, The French multinational is to close the Corpach Paper Mill near Fort William at the end of September 2005 with the loss of up to 126 jobs. The credit card chip and pin system had badly hit the market for the type of paper produced at the Lochaber plant. Arjo Wiggins said the market for its products had been 'destroyed' by electronic transactions. A special support team will work with union leaders, staff and management to ease the impact of closure. A task force is also being set up to try to salvage some jobs at the plant. He said the workforce had been told but no-one had yet received a formal redundancy notice.
