Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
On 8 August 2005, the producer of electrical apparatus, PKC group, informed that it is to start cooperation negotiations with its personnel in order to cut 230 jobs in the Kempele and Raahe units. The job cuts are carried out due to the company plans to move its production mainly to low cost countries. On 19 August 2005, PKC group gave further details on the finished codetermination negotiations. As a result of the negotiations, 180 employees will be made redundant. Other restructuring measures concern redeployement, change of task and ending of fixed term contracts.
