European Restructuring Monitor (ERM)
The restructuring events database contains factsheets with data on large-scale restructuring events reported in the principal national media and company websites in each EU Member State. This database was created in 2002.
Safilo, one of the leading group in the production of glasses, announced a reorganisation plan to face increasing competition by Far East firms. The plan will involve the closure of three plants, with the redeployment of most of the employees involved, who will be transferred to other production locations in the area. The unions estimate the actual lay-offs may amount to 10% of the total employment of the three plants to be closed down (ie some 50 jobs).
