Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Schneider Electric, the manufacturer of equipment for electric distribution, has announced a restructuring programme which involved the closure of three sites: Pacy-sur-Eure (230 jobs), Angoulême (300 jobs), Grenoble (464 jobs) and the reorganization of its Longvic's site near Dijon where 49 jobs will be suppressed out of 240 jobs. Management decided to spread the measures over 2006 and 2007 and rely on early retirements (280 people) and redeployment.
