Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
French information and communications technology (ICT) company Atos Origin, 31.8 % owned by Dutch electronics company Royal Philips Electronics NV, will cut 245 jobs in the Netherlands at its Managed Operations division. 165 jobs will be cut at the End User Services sector, while 80 jobs will be cut at the Enterprise Infrastructure Services of Atos Origin Managed Operations.
According to the company, the restructuring is in line with the needs and business strategies of a number of important customers in the region, and will not have a negative impact on the quality of services at Atos Origin Nederland. Atos Origin Nederland has filed a request for advice at the company's workers' council, Dutch trade union De Unie said. The trade union demands that Atos Origin take a large provision for a social plan. According to De Unie, the plan is to focus on replacing the redundant employees within the organisation of Atos Origin and support the finding of alternative jobs.
