Description

The Laurel Pub Company empire has bought two thirds of the SFI Group, which operates the Slug and Lettuce chain. The deal comes six months after the SFI Group, which trade under the Slug and Lettuce, Bar Med, Havana and Litten Tree brands, was put up for sale. The Laurel Pub Company now owns more than 400 high street pubs and bars throughout Britain.

SFI Group employs 2,900 people. As many as 800 jobs could be at risk as the new owners integrate the SFI head office with his existing pub operations. The remaining 52 pubs owned by SFI were placed in the hands of administrators at PricewaterhouseCoopers late on Thursday 23 June 2005. They are continuing to trade while the administrators try to find other buyers.
