Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Although many companies in the Romanian ready-to-wear industry indicate a decline in lohn production, due to investors increasingly turning to lower-wage countries, Platanus ready-made clothes factory in Baraolt (Centru region, Covasna county) is set to expand, creating 250 new jobs in production and another 50 in a logistics centre to be established in partnership with a company from Germany.
The factory in Baraolt is the property of businessman Bock Dietrich. Since 1991, Dietrich has invested over €20 million in Romania and currently owns three other factories in Covasna county; two of these factories manufacture trousers: RHM in Estelnic, and TTC in the city of Sfântul Gheorghe. A third factory, RGT, provides washing and dyeing services and is located in Sfântul Gheorghe.
The four factories employ 1,700 employees. The main client is Hugo Boss and recently contracts have also been signed for Strellson, Escada, Toni Gard, Hilt, Leithauser.
In addition to business expansion at Platanus in Baraolt, businessman Bock Dietrich intends to have a 1,500-2,000 square metres production hall fully operational in Sfântul Gheorghe by autumn 2005.
