Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Delphi Packard Austria, a major Austrian supplier for the European automotive industry located in Großpetersdorf (Burgenland), will reduce its workforce by 137 workers. Some additional 33 jobs are to be cut in the course of 2005. This was announced by the company's CEO, Franz Kromp, in the latest press release of 30 May 2005. The company, which is specialised in the production of cable systems and of synthetic and electronic components as well as the manufacturing of cables for the automotive industry, is going to relocate the latter production branch to Middle-East Europe, where the costs for manual work are significantly lower. The plant currently employs some 650 workers.
