Description

After the German government’s decision in 2000 to close all nuclear power plants in Germany, the first plant Obrigheim was shut down in May 2005. All in all, 325 jobs will be shed. Whereas 155 jobs will be lost in the short term, 170 employees will take care of the plant until it will be completely dismantled in 2007. Young employees shall be shifted to other units of energy producer EnBW, older employees can take early retirement. There shall be thus no direct dismissals. Obrigheim's mayor said that he expects further job losses in the region as a consequence of the closure.
