A salmon processing factory on Scalpay in the Western Isles of Scotland will be closed with the loss of up to 100 jobs. Staff of the former Stolt Factory on Scalpay were informed of the news by company bosses who visited the operation. The plant was taken over by Marine Harvest following a merger in early May 2005. Western Isles Council described the announcement as a ‘bitter blow' for the island economy.
