Description
A West Yorkshire bakery is to close with the loss of 100 jobs. The Co-operative Group, which owns the Townville Bakery in Castleford, said it regretted the decision but added the operation was not viable. Attempts to find another buyer had proved unsuccessful, a spokesman said. The group plans to close the bakery on 14 May 2005. It has entered into talks with trade union USDAW and said it would help staff find alternative jobs.
The Co-operative Group bought the bakery in 2002 from foodstore chain GT Smith.
