Description

In order to restore Alstom’s competitiveness and profitability, extensive restructuring has taken place since 2003. The need to resize large parts of the Power activities in Mannheim is a direct result of the dramatically current and expected low workload. The company needs to discontinue or right-size departments, such as the generator factory, the coating shop and the hydro business or right-size others like the assembly department, the new steam turbine activity, and the respective overheads of these operations. 450 positions would be affected by this restructuring plan. After completion of this project, Power related activities in Mannheim would represent more than 1,100 positions, including 400 positions in Power Service. This resizing project has already been presented to the Select Committee of Alstom's European Works Forum and will be presented to the Mannheim Workers Council. All necessary steps will be taken to consult the employee representatives of the concerned site, with the aim to respect the existing agreements. The opening of a 3-month negotiation period is envisaged to address the situation and its consequences.
