Description

As part of plans to move the music channel Viva to Berlin, US media group Viacom which recently acquired the channel, is to cut 210 jobs. Viva is to be integrated with MTV, the music channel offshoot of Viacom in Germany. Currently Viva is based in Cologne and employs 292 people in its music channel division. Brainpool, the television production subsidiary of Viva, and Viva Plus, the second Viva channel, are to remain in Cologne as part of a compromise between Viacom and the regional government in North-Rhine Westphalia. The regional government had threatened to pull Viacom channels from the television cable network in the region if the US company insisted on moving all Viva's operations to Berlin.
