Description

Rowenta, manufacturer of small electrical household goods, announced that it plans to cut 215 jobs at Erbach, one of its two production sites in Germany. The toasters, irons, hair dryers and vacuum cleaners manufacturer employs around 1,100 staff in Germany. In an effort to be more competitive, Rowenta will shift production of irons from Erbach to China. Pressure from cheaper foreign manufacturers is only one piece of the equation making the future of the white goods segment in Germany a depressing one. Continuing consumer reticence, the country's high saturation ratio and the recession are other important factors.
