Description

In January 2005 Karmann is considering the possibility of job cuts. Works council fears that over 600 of the 5,900 jobs at its site in Osnabruck may be under threat. However it is said that all possible options will be examined in order to avoid forced redundancies. These might include shorter working time or age-related rationalisation. This plan comes in reaction to the weak sector market and the resulting threat of a possible lack of new orders for vehicle construction.

At the end of 2004, Karmann announced 120 job losses in the area of operating equipment construction and terminated 770 contracts prematurely. The company is reported to be planning 50 job cuts in the UK and 250 in the US.

On 27 May 2005, Handelsblatt announced that at the end of the restructuring, 700 temporary contracts were not renewed and 500 permanent contracts were terminated.
