Description
Siemens has announced plans to cut 1,350 jobs worldwide in its communications division, Siemens Com. Around 700 jobs are to be lost in Germany alone. The cuts are necessary to solve the problem of over-capacity in the division. Siemens had already planned earlier in 2005 to cut 100 jobs in Germany in its communications division. Now, a further 200 jobs will be cut in Berlin, and 400 in Munich. The staff council is opposed to the plans as it believes that constantly cutting jobs cannot be the only solution to the problems in Siemens Com. Siemens management said that it will try to offer affected employees other positions within the group, or social compensation packages.
