A battery recycling plant is to be built in the Gwent valleys, bringing 128 jobs to an unemployment blackspot. EnviroWales Ltd has received a £2.5 million grant from the Welsh Assembly Government towards the project.

The factory will be built on the Rassau Industrial Estate near Ebbw Vale and is expected to open in 2006. The factory will have the capacity to deal with up to 70,000 tonnes of used batteries a year.
