Description
Woolworths announced early in January 2005 that its Big W store at Pool, near Redruth, was to shut with the loss of 133 jobs. The Cornwall superstore officially ceased trading on Friday 4 February 2005.
The announcement came after a review by the company of its stores around the country. Some are being closed and others are being reduced in size.
There is hope for some former staff as the new site owner Tesco says it wants to employ up 350 people at a store it hopes to open on the site by summer 2005.
