Description
Courtaulds' new business plan entails the planned closure of its Sutton-in-Ashfield factory and the loss of 50 jobs at its factory in Belper, Derbyshire. Courtaulds blamed difficult trading conditions and pressure on prices from High Street stores. Union leaders are vowing to fight plans to close the Nottinghamshire clothing factory with the loss of 340 jobs. Officials from trade union Community said they will meet the US-owned firm next week to try to save jobs. Deputy General Secretary Paul Gates said: ‘We are dismayed at Sarah Lee Courtaulds' plans and the way the announcement has been handled.'
