Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
According to the Austrian newspaper Der Standard, the Viennese electrical firm AKG Acoustics sent, in the end of December 2004, written notice of a planned dismissal of 100 employees to the Labour Market Service. The paper stated that part of the production may be transferred to Hungary or the Czech Republic. Currently, the company employs 576 workers at the plant in Vienna. The firm, which is completely owned by the US-based Harman International Industries, manufactures electrical acoustic sets, such as microphones, headsets, conference circuit systems.
