Description
More than half of the workforce at carpet-maker Stoddard International were made redundant yesterday to give the company "a fighting chance" of survival. Receivers appointed to Stoddard said 266 workers would lose their jobs immediately. Another 90 have been placed on short time.
The Kilmarnock-based company, which made the red carpet on which the Queen walked down the aisle on her wedding day, employs 479 people.
