Description
The Italian subsidiary of the Austrian retail company Billa Ag, which is part of the German-owned Rewe group, announced a restructuring plan which will mainly affect its brand Standa, a chain of department stores, but also the Billa supermakets, though to a lesser extent. The reorganisation will involve some 400 redundancies and the possible closure of some 45 outlets. The trade unions called a strike to support their request to discuss the restructuring plan. The meetings between the company and the trade unions continued in December 2004.
