Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Arc International announced a strong restructuring of its French site in Arques. By the end of 2005, three productions ovens will be closed and 80,000 tons of glass production will be transferred abroad. 25% of the French employees will lose their jobs. 1,700 employees will benefit from pre-retirement measures starting from October 2006, while others will be internally relocated. The total loss of 2,700 employees comes as a shock for the local economy, as 1/5 of the whole population of Saint-Omer was employed by Arc.
