Description
A packaging firm in Barnsley has gone into administration, putting the jobs of 400 workers at risk. Parkside International bought the Darton plant in 2002 and says that despite investing heavily it has been unable to make it profitable. The company makes printed film that is used on cigarette and snack packets.
The company said: "Despite multi-million pound investment in equipment, performance has not improved at the plant in the face of a failure to agree the necessary changes to working practices, excessive site costs and escalating raw material prices." Two other plants it owns in Normanton in West Yorkshire and Zlotow in Poland are not affected.
