Description
CBR, cement manufacturer subsidiary to HeidelbergCement, announced on 20 October a restructuring programme implying the cut of 193 jobs in Belgium. The restructuring is due to the increase of cement imports in Belgium which caused a lowering of the company's turnover. Hence the decision to decrease productivity. All the production centres of the company will remain operational, but will be downsized. The sites of Lixhe (Liège), employing 337, Harmignies (Mons), with 120, and Brussels, with 185, should be most affected. The sites of Gand (Gent) and Antoing (Tournai) should remain untouched.
On 20 february 2005, an agreement has been made in Lixhe: There will be no direct dismissals in Lixhe. Workers aged 52 will benefit from early retirement measures and full retirement will be gained for workers aged 55. Other measures are currently being implemented.
