Description
Volkswagen (VW) has announced the redundancy of 200 employees on its site of Forest before the end of 2004. The job cuts are part of the restructuring programme of VW, called ‘for motion'. 400 other jobs are at risk, but should be kept if two conditions are met. The first one is a production target of 230,000 units for 2005, instead of 190,000 in 2004. The second one is the ‘automotive park', logistics centre regrouping all of the company's subcontractors, still to be created. Unions argue that the dismissed workers should be the last hired (mainly interim contracts), while company management would seem to favour the redundancy of the less productive elements.
