Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Durobor, producer of glasses, will suppress 83 jobs out of a total of 450 in Soignies. The company had already terminated 50 temporary contracts in July 2004. Furthermore, for the employees remaining with the company, the overall wage bill will be downsized by 12.7%. The global market for glass products has been declining by 15% a year since 2001. Production costs are rising and selling prices decreasing. Company stated that compulsory redundancies could not be avoided.
