Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
More than 130 workers at Grampian Country Food Group are losing their jobs with the closure of a major food factory. The Lincolnshire meat processing factory in Spalding is due to shut down at the beginning of December, leaving all 138 workers redundant. Grampian Foods, which has more than 50 sites across the UK, said it is looking to move production to other sites within the business. The company is also trying to find staff new jobs either within the Grampian group or with other local companies. It comes just a year after the company axed 97 jobs in the county when it lost a major contract.
