Description

Koninklijke Wessanen is a multinational food company based in the Netherlands which operates in the European, American and Canadian markets.

A first wave of redundancies (400) was announced in February 2002, a second one in August 2002 (400).

Wessanen reduced earlier than foreseen the workforce of its branch, Tree of Life North America, by 300 employees.

In August 2003, the reorganisation plan 'Phoenix' could lead to the suppression of 500 to 700 jobs above the 300 axed at Tree of Life North America.

In October 2003, 84 jobs were shed in Belgium : production of the Convenience Food Groep is concentrated in Bocholt, stopped in Essen.

In December 2003, some 95 jobs are to be axed at Tree of Life Europe. Between 35 and 55 in belgium and some 40 in the Netherlands. This measure is part of the Phoenix restructuring plan.
