Description
Steelcase, office furniture manufacturer, will close its Strasbourg factory, shedding 155 jobs. These redundancies add up to the ones performed in 2002 and 2003, of 134 and 127 employees. 100 jobs should also be transferred within the group. The redundancies will be effective by the end of 2005. Management does not plan to resort to direct dismissals. The office furniture market has dropped by 35 to 40% these last three years. The competition from eastern countries has also strengthened. This difficult context made the restructuring a question of survival.
