Description
In order to relaunch the competitiveness of the group, one of the world's leading designer and
manufacturer of upholstered furniture, the board od directors announced a reorganisation plan in early September 2003. The plan includes a 345 job reductions at the Santeramo in Colle location, mainly concentrated in administrative and technical staff. The company management affirmed that it is willing to redeploy some of these people in other positions and is ready to start consultations with the unions to examine the use of 'social shock absorbers' for actual redundancies. The unions expressed some concerns over the propsects of occupational levels in Italy, also in consideration of the recent opening of production sites in China, Brasil and Romania.
