Description
SNCF, the French railway company, announced the continuing of its restructuring programme that saw more than 3,000 job losses in 2003. The company announced 3,505 further job losses by the end of 2004. The management insists that these job cuts will be achieved via natural attrition. The freight division will be most affected. On 13 May 2004, there was a national strike in protest of the redundancies. On 26 May 2004, the workers' representatives have been received by Louis Gallois, SNCF's president.
