Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Thales Daimler Aerospace (TDA), weapon manufacturer, has announced a restructuring programme aiming at preserving competitiveness that will see the redundancy of 113 of its 460 employees. There will be 92 direct dismissals and 21 pension schemes. Unions express concerns as to the continuing of industrial activity in the region as the company is consistently reducing the number of its employees (it employed 1,800 workers in the 80's). They are also urging local authorities to develop a regional plan for employment. Giat Industries, active in the same sector, recently restructured its activities in the same region.
