Description

As announced on 7 October 2002, Buhrmann will implement reorganisation measures that will lead to a cost reduction of around 30 million euros in 2003 and of about 60 million euros in 2004. In Europe and North America, the company is rationalising its organisation, allowing for a reduction in back-office and support functions (mainly IT, warehouses and distribution). The reorganisation will lead to a reduction in headcount of 1,100 in total. The information and consultation procedures with employees and their representatives in various countries will begin in the coming weeks. In February 2004, Buhrmann declared it expects some hundreds (no accurate figures communicated) of jobs to be shed this year, mostly by natural attrition. The total workforce at the end of 2003 amounted to 17,832 employees.
